Bio

: Uwe Steven Brandes is an urban designer specializing in the expansion of the public realm of cities. He currently serves as Project Manager for the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative, an unprecedented urban design partnership between over a dozen federal agencies and the District of Columbia to recapture the shores of the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C. Mr. Brandes has held teaching positions at Harvard University and the Pratt Insittute, and has lectured widely on urban design and public space topics. He spoke on Washington's recently constructed memorials and its rapidly transforming pubilc realm, and explore the necessity to redefine the relationship between commemorative works, pbulic open space and urban redevelopment in the nation's capital.
